Why should an LEI code be renewed?

An LEI code requires annual renewal. The renewal process is necessary to ensure that data in the global LEI database is relevant and up to date. If your LEI code expires, it is no longer valid and you cannot carry out financial transactions with securities.

Automatic renewal of LEI code

We know that renewing your LEI code every year can be a time-consuming process. That is why LEI Service offers multi-year renewals, where your LEI is automatically given an updated registration on your behalf during the years the agreement runs.

Your LEI code can be renewed for a 1-, 3- or 5-year period according to your preference. If changes occur, however, you are obliged to notify us so that the data can be updated in the GLEIF database. This service is completely free of charge.

The difference between an LEI renewal and LEI transfer

A LEI renewal is the annual revalidation of the legal entity's reference data by the LOU that manages the LEI. Once the renewal is completed, the updated record is published in GLEIF's Global LEI Index. The data must be revalidated at least once a year.

A LEI transfer moves the management of an existing LEI from one registration agent or LOU to another. Companies often transfer their LEI if they are not satisfied with the current fees, prices or service. The LEI number never changes in a transfer, because the code belongs to the legal entity, not to the provider that manages it.

If your LEI is currently managed by another registration agent or LOU, you can transfer it to RapidLEI, the LOU we work with as a registration agent. The transfer itself is free of charge. As part of your transfer order, we submit the renewal for the period you choose, at the price shown below.
